Can’t afford your mortgage anymore? Just trade houses with the homeless.

As more and more homes become vacant because the real estate bubble that was never going to burst burst, the homeless are stepping in to clean up the mess. Every time a homeowner drops a set of keys in the mailbox and walks away, some scruffy guy with a meth problem saddles up to the increasingly difficult responsibility of homeownership.

Some may call it “squatting” but I just call it common sense.

Empty houses + homeless people = problem solved.

Some may say this solution simply causes a different problem. But as John McCain said last night, “the government is not responsible for fixing the problems of irresponsible people”. The subprime mess may have caused a whole new category of homeless — the nouveau homeless — but hey, it’s their own damn fault.
